Pale Pressed Grade (PPG) Castor Oil is a premium refined oil produced from the first pressing of castor seeds. It is characterized by its high purity, lighter color, and lower acidity compared to standard industrial grades. 

Key Chemical Composition

As of 2026, PPG Castor Oil is standardized to contain:

  • Ricinoleic Acid: Typically 85% to 90%. This is the primary active component that provides its unique polarity and moisturizing properties.
  • Other Fatty Acids:
    • Oleic Acid: Approximately 3–6%.
    • Linoleic Acid: Approximately 2.5–7%.
    • Stearic Acid: Up to 2.5%.
    • Palmitic Acid: Up to 2%. 

Physical Characteristics

  • Appearance: Brilliantly clear and free from suspended matter.
  • Color: Light yellow or colorless; typically rated at 10 Yellow and 1.0 Red Max on the Lovibond scale.
  • Odor: Very slight or virtually undetectable characteristic scent. 

Typical Uses

Due to its high purity and refined nature, it is used in: 

  • Pharmaceuticals: As a component in tablet coatings or medicinal formulations (requires proper certification).
  • Cosmetics: In skincare and hair care products due to its emollient properties.
